European Put Option

Put options provide the holder (owner) the right, but not the obligation to sell an agreed amount of foreign currency (notional amount) at an agreed exercise price (the exercise or strike price) within within an agreed time period (tenor). For the above privilege, the holder of the option pays the seller (underwriter) a certain amount of money (option premium) upfront.

For the above vanilla options, if the holder of the option is only allowed to exercise the option on its maturity date, we call the option a European option; if the holder of the option can exercise the option at any time during its tenor, the option is known as an American option.
